BIOGRAPHY

Gianluca Farina has been the Principal Trumpet of the Sarasota Orchestra since September, 2022. Previously, he spent three years as a trumpet fellow at the New World Symphony, based in Miami Beach, Florida, under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.

Gianluca has made multiple guest appearances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, The Florida Orchestra, and Nu Deco Ensemble. Throughout his two years in Los Angeles, Gianluca has held principal trumpet positions with the American Youth Symphony and the Young Musicians Foundation's Debut Chamber Orchestra, and has also performed side-by-side with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mr. Farina has spent his summers performing with the Utah Festival Opera, the Tanglewood Music Center, the Pacific Music Festival Academy Orchestra under Maestro Valery Gergiev, the National Repertory Orchestra under Carl Topilow, and the National Orchestral Institute and Festival.

Mr. Farina holds an Artist Diploma from the Colburn School, a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Music Education from the State University of New York at Fredonia. His principal teachers were Alex Jokipii of the Buffalo Philharmonic, Thomas Rolfs of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and James Wilt of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

As a clinician, Farina has taught masterclasses and performed solo recitals at the Universities of Florida and Central Florida, and at his Alma Mater, SUNY Fredonia. He also enjoys teaching private lessons to students of all ages, and lately has been specializing in audition preparation.

In addition to his classical trumpet work, Gianluca enjoys playing jazz and rock music (on trumpet and guitar), trying new beers, playing video games, and exploring new places. He lives with his partner, Gilma, and their dog, Fusilli Mucca.
